Telnet problem using hyperterminal and command prompt

When telneting to eggdrop all is fine except for one thing...

I can't see what i type - I have to guess what i'm typing. I use windows XP command prompt, and tried hyperterminal

I'm running eggdrop v1.6.15

Any ideas?

Unfortunatley .echo on
is only showing what i typed AFTER i typed it in rather then while I type. The problem is that I cant see what i'm typing especially if its a long thing its a big pain.

Someone out there must know

The problem lays with your telnet client, not with eggdrop.
Look for a 'local echo' setting in your TELNET client's settings and turn it on.

I use windows XP command prompt, and tried hyperterminal. Even did telnet from shell in Linux.

Command prompt on XP and shell on linux i dont think have a local echo configurator. I have a friend on irc who reported having the same problem. So if someone is using eggdrop 1.6.15 and is managing to telnet to the bot and see what they type WHEN they type it, please lemme know what telnet client ur using and what needs to be done in order for it to work

If you are using hyperterminal try the following:

Go to File->Properties->Settings->ASCII Setup
And Check the box 'Echo typed characters locally'

I'm using a couple of 1.6.15 eggdrops, running on BSD as well as on Linux without any telnet Problems.

As a telnet Client I personally use secureCRT, highly configurable but unfortunally not free. Another good choice might me putty (free) or teraterm.

OK, tried it with Hyperterminal as well.

go to file - properties -settings
choose ascii setup
enable echo typed characters locally

that's it, than you should see your input.

Putty is also a good (free) choice

When you just have runned 'telnet' on you windows XP before you open the Connetion whit your bot do :
set local_echo

Then open the connection with your bot

For now i'm using SecureCRT and peeps for those of u experts in that, I have found it a bit annoying when i'm typing a command and a whole bunch of info comes up everywhere...and half of what u typed sorta dissapears!!

You guys know what settings i need to do in order for it to resemble dcc chat?

regardless if you dcc, ctcp or telnet, the output is always the same.
There might be a problem with "weird" characters if you use telnet, in this case search for fixcodes in the forum.
If you get something like this every 5 min: [m/42 o/4 h/0 v/9 n/0 b/0 e/- I/-], try .chanset channelname -statuslog.

not really worried bout the output as much as when i type part of it goes missing visually with the display...

so if ur in the middle of lets say .chattr user +

and some garbage comes up on the screen...all that dissapears and you see nothing of what u typed...it kinda gets shifted up with the display

so u have to remember where u were... All i want is for it to behave the same as i was used to in dcc in mirc concerning entering commands
