if it's not your machine, try different port (6660-6669), some admins have the nasty habit of blocking 6667

also fire up an IRC client from the bot's shell and see if you can connect to IRC; in the absence of such, try telneting directly to the server on IRC port

i believe there is a conf file option called connect-timeout, make sure you are giving the bot enough time. Also make sure you have multiple servers listed, and that set net-type is set to the correct variable.

okay well I got the config file all set up it executes without any errors, and I can connect to the bot through telnet; however, it gets a connection timeout when trying to connect to IRC

I've tried both irc.rizon.net and irc.dal.net both get the same error.

I am trying to run it on a suse box, perhaps i need to install something else before I can get the bot running like the IRC protocol or something I dunno, is there a way to check if IRC works fine from the box?

I have never delt with anything IRC releated in linux so I am pretty much a complee noob at this.
