By all means I'd like to ask for a feature for tcl developers.

First, could you offer the downloadable database again? I don't like the idea to do a http request on your server for every query and you probable also wouldn't like it if I do a ip2c request for everyone in channel every few hours. (for a statistics script)

As a tcl developer I'd like to have a small proc. Like:

Code:

proc ip2country { hostname_or_ip } { set country [...do the magic...] return $country}

Example:

.tcl ip2country xxx.adsl.com
US

Somehow like this. If that is not possible without callback then with callback...

Probable I could hack your script to do that, I've done that in past. But now there is a new version, new database and I forgot how to do so. Unfortunately I am very bad at understanding source written by someone else, takes long. Of course that is not your fault, your code is fine, it's my weakness.

I hope I am not asking for something difficult or to much. So it would be great if you could offer the downloadable database and such a function (proc) for developers.
Statistics: Posted by desired — Tue Nov 22, 2011 8:57 pm

Well i noticed ip-to-coutry that was used with the old script was outdated, .. and ip-to-country site where i used to get my data hasn't updated it's csv since 2010 so i figured it was time to start doing something about it it

anyone who wants to use these server feel free, i've set them up to update the data base monthly, .. since the previous source isn't doing it so ..

oh also i noticed overlapping masks in ipv6 i think this has to do with tunnel providers, .. they show as reserved (ZZ) and show a country as the sample above, .. also normal an 6to4 address shows reserved range however i just mapped it back to it's ipv4 range.

http://api.ip2c.info/xml/10.0.0.1

supported xml, json, csv, null, if you just null it shows csv format by default and shows where your ip is located.

Sorry didn't write an info or intro whatever had little to much work, if there is any issues let me know.

if there's any suggestions or features to the script let me know, .. please don't ask for city, geo location whatever this is ridiculously inaccurate, it only shows the location of the ISP not the real location of the IP, for example my isp is located in sint-niklaas, BE so when i geolocate my ip it shows that info while i'm at the other side of the country, .. so basically only shows the location of the isp's office, because ip2c databases get their records from whois records. shared by registry. So every script that is going to pinpoint your location on the hand of your IP is just providing you with false information, .. unless the ISP is a local ISP, or if the ISP set whois records according to location. Though the country seems to be correct in most cases. Because registry require this unless it's an IPN ofcourse.
Statistics: Posted by Ofloo — Fri Aug 19, 2011 3:25 am
