I compiled my own Windrops and the reason was to do with the DNS module; it didn't work in the packages I downloaded. It was something to do with a component of Cygwin that was required and I can't remember exactly which one it was but seems the problem still persists.

In the Downloads section of my website is a version of Windrop (1.6.16) where the DNS module works exactly as it should; it also uses Gseen v1.1.1 Dev 3.
Statistics: Posted by Alchera — Thu Dec 09, 2004 9:44 am

Oh my god this is so stupid!!!

i've found the problem.

First of all, dns still doesn't work, but i use IP addresses now and that's fine for me

the problem was McAfee Enterprise 8.

It has port blocking in the on-access scanner ... I set an exception there so that eggdrop.exe can use ports 6666-6669

You can put multiple programs on that exception line, and divide them with a comma ... apparently McAfee doesn't think these 2 lines are the same:

mirc.exe, eggdrop.exe
mirc.exe,eggdrop.exe

AS IF there are executables that start with a space in their name

So the 'Unforseen error 113' will most likely have been the on-access-scan blocking the exe from using that port to the outside

Thanks all for looking for answers with me ... it's greatly appreciated. The resolve.conf I posted is all that it contains, just that one namerver line to point to his ISP's DNS server so it's nothing fancy and in conjunction with winident1.2.tcl it emulates mIRC's Identd server. Other things to possibly look at are router/firewall settings although they seem OK as he's got his eggdrop to attempt a connection to QuakeNet, albeit unsuccessfully:

Failed connect to xs4all.nl.quakenet.org (DNS lookup failed)

Using IP's to connect to some IRC networks will sometimes generate an error as the IP's usually do not resolve (basically because they don't really exist; used by the hub for linking purposes).

I am not familiar with QuakeNet but if they have a random server to connect to I'd suggest using that in the bots config file. DNS lookup failures usually indicate the server is no longer online or in existance.
Statistics: Posted by Alchera — Wed Dec 08, 2004 6:52 pm
