You also might want to check the 'loadmodule dns'.
Sometimes that is the source of delayed connects to an IRC server as well.

Well, you should run bot and then telnet to it.In telnet you'll see what error/problem bot have while he is connecting.You might need to change server-timeout ....

I have not currently set it to use a vhost, and I know it doesnt connect to the server (however I know it is up because mIRC/XChat connect fine) as when I whois its just the "botnick: no such nick/channel" messages... it takes in excess of 6 hours still, and I did have it successfully connected, but after one of the servers on the network was down, the bot is nowhere to be seen, so Its just a waiting game
any ideas/suggestions as to why my bot takes so long would be much appreciated.

If the bot is using a vhost, which I gather it is, the problem could be the name server. Currently I'm having a little problem with one where a vhost I'm using is stored. The bot connects and then "hangs" half way through the process of connecting. Only a /whois actually shows the bot is on the server but it never gets into a channel.

Public vhosts are not normally stored on name servers where a shell account is. You could try using another vhost.

Hi, I'd just like to know some possible reasons, and solutions for my problem:

My eggdrop, which as far as I know is configured fine. takes hours to connect, I know it takes at least 2 hours, even though the machine it runs on has recently been upgraded and is not being used for anything much...

I know its configured correctly as it connects after a few hours... however I really need it to connect quicker, as I cant always wait hours.

Any help will be much appreciated.
