If being able to hide your bot's ident is that important, then you may wish to change your provider to one that allows this. There are some shells that do not use identd, or will allow your bots to set their own username. Email these other shells to find out.

This is the purpose of the ident I am affraid.

It was originaly desighned to confirm/detect which user on a system, is connecting to a server, thus it returns your username.

There is the possibility of contacting you admin about installing a identd, that support ident faking. Note, he may likely say no, as people tend to abuse this, and it can lead to security issues.

Is there any possibility to change the ident off your eggdrop, just like in mirc for yout usual nick?
I'm not interested in telling everyone the name off my shell-account on the server...
