ima n00b. so i gather i just have to place a copy of all my leaf bots conf files motds ect in my hubs shell as shown?

They aren't config file lines, but example file listings showing what a typical netbots.tcl setup might look like on each bot's shell.

i've been running your netbots for some time now, but have never set the netupdate correctly. The example you give:

BigBoy's shell (hub bot)
bigboy.conf camelback.conf mallard.conf motd netbots/netbots.tcl netbots/netset.tcl netbots/aidle.tcl netbots/botnetop.tcl

Camelback's shell
camelback.conf motd netbots/netbots.tcl netbots/netset.tcl netbots/aidle.tcl netbots/botnetop.tcl

Mallard's shell
mallard.conf motd netbots/netbots.tcl netbots/netset.tcl netbots/aidle.tcl netbots/botnetop.tcl

my question is simple...where do these lines go?

Unfortunately, your question makes no sense to me. It sounds as though you've misinterpreted something in the documentation

Do the source lines need be at the bottom of each bots conf, or netset.tcl?

And I'm also curious about the format. Does my entire list have to be on one line? Or can I break it up a bit, such as:

botA.conf botB.conf botC.conf botD.conf botE.conf botF.conf
motd botE.motd botF.motd telnet-banner
netbots/aidle.tcl netbots/botnetop.tcl netbots/chanlimit.tcl
ect ect
