OK, he is finally in. I had to remove him and re-add him using "*!hmmm@info-1770D16D.dc.dc.cox.net " as the host.

Now that I have finally gotten it straight how to add a normal user, I should be able to get the others added OK.

Don't know if this is related, but I added a non-owner using:

.+user

but the hostmask was not added to the user file. I edited the file, adding in the hostmask and reuploaded it.

Is there some special form the hostmaks must take to properly insert itself into the user file? I used:

.+user phantmi hmmm@info-1770D16D.dc.dc.cox.net

When I added the host line in the user file I used:

--HOSTS *!hmmm@info-1770D16D.dc.dc.cox.net

BTW, he cannot get in either.

remove his handle from the set owner setting in the conf.. then he wont be "perm" owner and you will be able to change it

The "owner" in question has been talked through adding a password several times, but to no avail. Trouble is, the host the bot resides on does not have telnet installed. I can FTP into the folders and change anyfile I wish, but cannot telnet in to talk to the bot.

Perhaps if I manually change the users file?

No, why go to the trouble? I think the easiest way is to simply remove all users but myself from the .conf file, remove them from the user file, and re-add them with the appropriate flags later.

I do so hate to start over.

He's a permanent owner and by that he has full rights on the bot. He should set the password himself. And if he can't dcc chat the bot you still have the possibilty to telnet on the bot and change everything then

I have already tried the suggestions from egghelp.org ... in fact, that is the first place I went for help. One person in particular is one of the servers OPs and, though his handle is in the user file along with the flags I set in the .conf file, I cannot add a password for him. Every time I try, I get:

You can't change a permanent bot owner's password.

When I try to remove his handle, I get:

You can't remove a permanent bot owner!

Am I going to have to remove him from the .conf file and rehash before I will be able to add him?

I have been able to set up other users, but the Server OPs are really the ones I'm mostly interested in giving access to.

Add there host and the flags and let them set a passwoord and it works
For help on the flags read .help chattr

I apologize in advance for this question. I realize it must have been asked before, but when I did a search the results ran to 23 pages! I looked through the first 5 or 6 pages and gave up. If there is a definitive answer somewhere, please just post a link and I will look there. If this is in the wrong forum, please move it.

The background:

I have an eggdrop bot running on my chat server. I have set the following parameter:

set learn-users 0

because I do not want anyone adding themselves to the Bots user list.

My question:

I want to be able to add users to the bot, but when I use .adduser or +user the name only is added and the users do not have access because they do not have a password or any flags. How may I add users to my bot so they can login to the party line and use the bot?
