i did this...

mv eggdrop1.6.15 eggdrop
then did everything....and it failed

but THEN

I untar'd it again, and left the default directory naming scheme... and guess what.... it worked ;/

Installing in directory: '/eggdrop'.

Renamed the old 'eggdrop' executable to 'oeggdrop'.
Copying new 'eggdrop' executable and creating symlink.
/usr/bin/install: cannot stat `eggdrop': No such file or directory
make: *** [install-bin] Error 1
