You must open ports from 1024 to 5000

Is that the only range? Can I open ports higher then that? 6000-7000 for dcc on my XP machine for example?

Maybe thats whats causing the crashes?! Sadly no firmware updtaes available yet, so either something is seriously wrong in configuration or the router has something up wiith it cause it keeps crashing. I think a good telnet app is my only option, unless there is someone out there who has managed to work out a trick on dccing within the lan.

If its impossible then i shall just give up trying to find out how... hehehe, but if there is a way...my quest will go on
Statistics: Posted by AxS — Wed Sep 03, 2003 11:12 pm

I haid same problem, but my router didnt crash, just bot didnt anwser...You must open ports from 1024 to 5000, or like you have in your options in mIRC.Then you can chat...
Statistics: Posted by ]Kami[ — Wed Sep 03, 2003 3:19 pm

it crashes the router? thats very odd.. you router has a loopback problem or something man.. i would check for a firmware update.. no way should it crash.. you basically have to make a choice tho man.. either the outside world will be able to chat your bot and you will not ( cept via telnet).. or you set it up entirely different and you would be able to chat your bot.. but the outside world would not... i suggest ya go grab yourself a nice lil telnet client
Statistics: Posted by gumbydammit — Tue Sep 02, 2003 6:20 pm

Hi strikelight err well unfortunately on my setup, the /ctcp has the same effect as dcc and crashes the router or whatever, because internet link is lost completely when i ctcp. Right now i managed to link to a friends bot so i can dcc chat with his, so i'm not feeling the loss as much anymore hehehe. It would be nice to know how to do it though.
Statistics: Posted by AxS — Tue Sep 02, 2003 4:57 pm

What happens when you try: /ctcp <BOT> chat
It will result in your bot chatting you, which is essentially the same as if you were to telnet to your bot.
Statistics: Posted by strikelight — Tue Sep 02, 2003 12:40 pm

Well the right ports are open for it (both computers separately) to be able to DCC chat to the rest of the world, and I don't want to have the router's firewall off.

My XP machine is the regular irc user... my linux machine has the bot which i like to dcc to. Now on a normal hub and a software firewall using ics this worked fine, but with a router its behaving in a strange way as i explained above.

Please help peeps
Statistics: Posted by AxS — Tue Sep 02, 2003 12:25 pm

All ports should be open when you access another LAN machine behind the linksys router. So, it should work.
Statistics: Posted by Bytez — Mon Sep 01, 2003 11:46 pm

Anyone know how to do that? After my previous posts, I have found alternate ways to get around it, but now my main question is this...

Is it possible to DCC CHAT from one computer to another on a lan behind a linksys router?

I prefer this method as it interacts much better with my mirc rather then telnetting to it, having problems cut n pasting... you know.

At the moment whenever i dcc chat to my bot, the router trips up and resets, and disconnects off the internet. But both compuers can separately DCC Chat to the outside world, so the right ports are open for that.

Please help if u know how, thanx
Statistics: Posted by AxS — Mon Sep 01, 2003 10:42 pm
