2. I want to connect to IRC thru the shell and setup an eggdrop. I have two allowed processes. The bot counts as one, obviously, but does my connecting thru BitchX (assuming they have it) count as another process?

Well, assuming you can understand english, i can't imagine FreeBSD being too hard to use for you. However, if you're not a native english speaker or can't understand english all that well, i suggest you find someone who you can communicate with in your chosen language to help you out with FreeBSD.4. I have just loaded and am learning Linux (Red Cap 9) on my laptop. I currently run a small Bircd server to let me test my mirc scripts off line in Windows. Does anyone know the Linux equivalent of a small, simple personal server so I can script and test my eggdrop?? I don't want to load anything large and complex - Linux newbie here, trying to swim before I drown)
The FreeBSD handbook itself is a great resource concerning the use of FreeBSD. I've set up ircd-hybrid servers under FreeBSD, no problems with these.. compiles went well, and assuming you know how to configure one ( the inlucded documentation is really sufficient ) you're set.
