Huh? Don't be such a smart ass. I have said I don't want to be involved in illegal stuff not that .ro people use legal ones or something. Anyway, duno and even don't care about this. Till now you havene prooved another legal usage of the XDCC thing but you have shooting with dirt on other people face. Shame on you..

Game demos, in reality, 99% of people doing demo shares are illegal too.

Distribution is usualy part of the download agreement.

I was talking about of using the ftp to transfer your private stuff to yourself not abuse of this service and do illegal stuff with it. Anyway, I have the same opinion about XDCC so..

FTP servers come hand in hand with the internet, and have been around long before warez started flying about.

Hundreds of companies use FTP as a file transfer tool, because there is much support for it, you don't need a secondry client in most cases and the fact it is a proper map of at least some part of the disk archive (and will thus likely be available in a simalar fasion, if also provided over http and other mediums).

Yes, it is now used for warez, however, it's insecurities still remain.

XDCC is on the other hand, a far more easier subject to define between, when talking between legit files and warez. XDCC was again available before warez, but not as far away as ftp.

Seeing as you had to be on IRC to download these files, it never has and never will take off as a real transport medium, for legitimate files and such. Don't get me wrong, it is used for legitimate purposes, and from memory, BitchX was once avilable (may still be) via XDCC. However, strong caution from trojan aware users, has made this function decline.

In gods hoenst truth, XDCC isn't the best method of tranfer you could have chosen.

You could have chosen from
FTP - host limited anonymous, or login enabled.
SCP - Far more secure approach, and supported by all systems with ssh based access.
HTTPD - Even a web-server can provide better serving of files.

Why use eggdrop to accept the connection too? This isn't automated, it's a IRC rebot designed for protection, and using it for file downloads in this way, is the same as when IRC stoped being a chat medium and became a warez and porn peddling medium.

Shure thing.. but don't count on me in. A XDCC is and will be used for *illegal files transfer* in large channels and fr what you've said by a few users. Anyway, dosen't matter for what you use it, the main pourpose of it is the first thing I've mentioned. You can still use the *ftp* to do the same thing.

Silly .. FTP is and will be used *illegal files transfer* so we can throw all FTP servers and clients software to can ? And we`ll not speak about`em ??
Wake up.

P.S. It isn`t FTP server on that 100Mb server.

Easy.
Im on slow link (512Kb) and one of my bots is on 100Mb line. Im downloadin` files for example beta isos from debian server to 100Mb server and then to my other bot located on my slow line.
Debian beta isos r changed frequently so if i`ll start download from my slow link those files r changed before i can finish download. All this things r automatic, without my manual assistence.
Enough ?
