Thanks for the reply... I am pretty sure the DNS is propogated fully and so is ok.<br><br>I was wondering if it might be possible to make it work in a similar way to a Vhost, i am only concerned with the DNS name being shown when some looks up the Bot's info within IRC...<p>Statistics: Posted by Guest — Fri Feb 28, 2003 8:04 am</p><hr />

This is a DNS issue with the servers that provide lookup requests for your IP.<br><br>To make a Vhost operate correctly, two conditions need to be true.<br><br>1: When you do DNS query on <a href="http://www.my.host.name" class="postlink">www.my.host.name</a>, it must resolve to a IP.<br><br>2: When doing a further DNS query on the IP returned, it must return the hostname you originaly started with.<br><br>While you may see both these happen, the IRC server may not.<br><br>This may be due to DNS cache, the timegap it takes to propergate the requests or because it simply isn't setup this way.<p>Statistics: Posted by <a href="https://forum.eggheads.org/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&amp;u=2">ppslim</a> — Fri Feb 28, 2003 7:57 am</p><hr />

Hi,<br><br>I am trying to make my bot use a DNS name when someone /whois the bot or uses info lookup from IRC. Rather than the usual IP etc. <br><br>I have used the 'set my-hostname "<a href="http://www.myhostname.com" class="postlink">www.myhostname.com</a>" ' in my bots .conf file, but this doesnt seem to do the trick....<br><br>Any info would be appreciated,<br>Many Thanks.<p>Statistics: Posted by Guest — Fri Feb 28, 2003 7:14 am</p><hr />
