The answer is, you get what you pay for.

Free shell provider will not supply vhosts.

This is mainly due to the fact, the shells are provided on a machine, running on there home network, using there broadband connection.

Thus, they either don't have the ability to provide, or they simply can't afford to.
Statistics: Posted by ppslim — Thu Oct 03, 2002 8:22 am

This is a issue with the IRC servers you are on, and nothing to do with eggdrop, or your irc client.

On some networks like this, they provide a usermode, that allows CTCP message through, you should find out what this is (if any) and add it to the init-server in the config file.

If there isn't one, the only other option is to use a good old telnet application. Telnet to the v-host you used on the bot (or the host it shows up as on IRC), using the port you defined as "users" or "all" in the listen setting, you used in eggdrop.
Statistics: Posted by ppslim — Tue Oct 01, 2002 5:19 am

Just beware that everytime you /msg bot ident <pass> [handle] - New hostmask will be added to your user account. You can easily endup with hundred hostmask within a month or so. More clever solution would be to comeup with a convinient hostmask for your hashed hostname and add it via .+host <yourhandle> <hostmask>.
Statistics: Posted by darko`` — Mon Sep 30, 2002 3:14 pm
