I\ve never been asked if I'll alow this. I've said that he had borowed some of the script I've made, and he didn't changed so much as I've said. look more carefuly and see with your own eyes. Is my script with an different type of banmask for the noidle or sleep or however I've made it on that version. I'll lunch the 1.03 version this days, I've got some tests to make and here you go. Thanks slennox for removing the script from the archive list.
Statistics: Posted by caesar — Tue Sep 17, 2002 11:27 am

The author of the script claims that he originally did give credit but forgot to add it back when he changed the layout of the comment section. He also claims that he sent caesar some suggested changes, but doesn't say that he received permission to release them.

In the eggdrop community it's not uncommon to release a modified version of another person's script, and is usually tolerated provided that due credit is given. But in the end it's up to each individual author to decide what is allowed, and if you choose to modify and release another person's script without receiving permission instead of starting your own from scratch, you are accepting the risk that the original author might object to it at a later time.
Statistics: Posted by slennox — Tue Sep 17, 2002 7:15 am

Ok true caesar, it's based on yours. However like slennox said, it's a substantial transformation. You say "He changed the name, some variables, but the script is the same I've made for about 90%" ...

Well just look at it and you'll see that many code is changed, removed or added.
And by the way, the variable names that you used are not changed ...
Sorry to say this, but your script had many bugs and was certainly incomplete!! And the 90%, ... I think 50% would be more correct.

However even if it's "only" 50%, you should be credited. I agree with that.
Statistics: Posted by Guest — Tue Sep 17, 2002 6:05 am

I compared the scripts and it's clearly based on yours. It is a substantial transformation however, I believe more so than you describe, but you should have been asked permission and received credit. The script has been removed.
Statistics: Posted by slennox — Mon Sep 16, 2002 10:30 am

Hi. I've seen today that the art of ripping has no limits. I've made a next tcl and now I sow on the TCL Archive an other next, mine with the name changed and some other texts. It's very funny this situation. He changed the name, some variables, but the script is the same I've made for about 90% What do you think of this? Ain't funny or what?
Statistics: Posted by caesar — Sun Sep 15, 2002 2:42 pm
