One method around the credit card problem is, to see if they will accept pay-pal.

Note the fees may be higher because of it, but it's a payment gurenteed on there part.

Also see what other forms of credit escrow services the providers will accept.

Oh, you can /detach the screen and disconnect completely from the shell. To reattach, type scr-bx (as the program says after you /detach).

Lately I havent used any public shells, so I couldn't give a good suggestion for purchasing one. Just type BitchX at the shell prompt and viola. When someone sends you a dcc, it will tell you the filename, size, etc, and just do /dcc get and it will start downloading. To check the status of all dcc's, do /dcc. Other than that, refer to the /help in the client.

Hmmm, it sounds like in mIRC ... I mean, could how could I do that in the background ? so I could simply left , and comeback if the file is done.

BTW, guys ... I already contact a couple webmaster/admins ... appereantly the problem is not anything with the shells, all of them said it's OK, I only need simple shell with BNC. The problem is simple ... they're not accept any credit cards from my Country! ... hu hu hu, I'm the legal owner, admins ....

Hmmm, actually movies that I'm interested is not not regular movies ... have you ever heard JAV ? the movie is not english at all, and all of them not downloaded 1 part .mpg/.avi for example, but divide into let's say 50 or 60 small rar files ...

Could you tell me where do you sign up for your shell ? how could I do that, first run the bitch x, then ? please give me detailed if you don't mind.

and most shell providers will have no qualms in reporting you to the relevant authorities for any illegal activities you perform on their systems. Not that anyone in indonesia would prolly care about your piracy, but the theory stands

I would say the biggest problem is WHAT you are downloading. Most shell companies have a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of warez, etc. I would say movies would be included in that.

Well, all ISP in my country are making some sort of standar on how the setting on internet service. So all DSL is 512 kbps, and 250 MB limit (there is 500 MB limit, but more expensive). The difference only the price, and usually the difference is less then 5 dollar! So it almost the same.

I'm not in USA, I would be very GLAD if I am I'm in Indonesia, like I said, internet access is kinda expensive stuff here, so I must be very wise using them

I don't have enough time to look tonight, but I will look into it.

As for finding out about bandwidth, it's advisable to e-mail and ask. Besides getting a answer, you can get more than just that info. You can see what sort of customer support services they provide.

Is that the only *DSL provider available?
You don't state what country you are in, only what currency you are looking at.
If you are in the US, I thought many of the telcos do LLU, which provides other DSL providers the ability to setup there own equipment, let alone services.

As stated in the previous post, you should try and look at the AUP (acceptable use policy) and T&C's. If need be, ask for a copy of these in an e-mail too.

Jeah.net give unlimited space (starting from the standard account). They say nothing 'bout the bandwith.

Anyway, if you have time, could you please take a look of their account at : http://www.jeah.net/shellaccounts.shtml cause I'm kinda confuse about this. Which one should I choose.

The problem is not my ISP, my ISP is one of the best in my country. The problem is (please don't laugh ) internet access is quite expensive in my country, I pay ~40USD every month for cable net access, they also force me to sign the cable TV, add extra ~20 USD every month, total : ~60 USD ... What do I got : 64kilobyte /s downstream and 16 kb/s upstream!!! This is the standard of all cable net access in my country.

Of course, other solution is ADSL, they cost ~35 USD a month, lease Telecommunication line the same amount total : ~70 USD a month. You got : 512 kilobytes /s , the problem is one : they limit the bandwith on a very small amount : only 250 MB of data transfer a month!!!

So my last shoot is this shell account, please please help me choose the one that suits my needs ....

Yes, what you say it possible, but it may not either be allowed, or possible on that account itself.

There are a few things that need to be teken into consideration.

Is it allowed under the contract of the shell provider?

Are you given sufficient quota (allocated and/or limited diskspace on the disk? Many providers set a limit of EG 50MB, but you may be able to use 100MB on a temp basis (some programs can grow large during the compile stage, and shrink again once completed. So this would be grace space, that will not be used for more than, eg, 30 mins).

Is there a bandwidth limit on the account? Remember, for each file you want, it's gonna take double the bandwidth of a direct download (download to the shell, and then upload to you).

While you may remain in your bandwidth limit each month. Does the account have a burst limit? Many providers will give you an example 2GB a month bandwidth, spread out accross the month. They may however limit you to 50MB in 24 hours.

It is doubtful you could find a shell provider that would allow all of this.

My sugestion would be to find a better ISP. 90% of the time it is due to routing issues or, downloading from users with modems, that cause speed issues.

Hi all

I'm a totally newbie at shell account, I'm planning to sign up in http://www.jeah.net (Is it good ? please give me advise), and I read somewhere, I could IRC from my shell using BitchX, right ? Jeah already have BitchX installed on their system.

My question is ... there is many people running fserve on IRC channel for movies ... MP3 ... but it's usually very slow to download from my home computer. Could I take benefit, and using my shell to download from them, after that I could ftp-ing and d/l to my home computer ? I know I could use this method on download from slow ftp/http (wget the files from shell then leave, and then I d/l to my computer).

Sorry if it sounds too newbie ...
