Yep I grabbed it from the ubuntu repo with apt-get install. It was also missing the scripts folder so I grabbed the tar from the main eggdrop site and added it.
Examine eggdrop.conf
Look for:

Code: 

 # Specify here where Eggdrop should look for help files. Don't modify this # setting unless you know what you're doing! set help-path "help/"
See whatever the path is... that your bot is using to look for the help files.
Then go to that directory.
Are they there?


I'm wondering if the Ubuntu version may have either overlooked them altogether, or if it put them somewhere else.



Can you start over with a new install? and this time compile from source? http://www.egghelp.org/setup.htm
I ask, because I bet you hit other snags as you go along.... and if you compile from source, then you probably won't have them.

Just setup a eggdrop on my ubuntu server and have it running no problems. It joins my channel and I can DCC to it. But when I type .help it responds
No help available on that.
If I type .help. it says
What? You need '.help'
Not sure what I missed on the setup?
