most likely the directory where you write your userfile is not writable by the account running the eggdrop.

check your eggdrop config to know where it's trying to write the userfile and check the permission on that folder.

Just tried, got this message:

[15:45:52] [03:48] #LOLINOM# save
[15:45:52] Saving user file...
[15:45:52] [03:48] ERROR writing user file.

I attempted to do this in the /ctcp Mint chat command

(Mint = Bot, LOLINOM = Master)

The eggdrop process will inherit the permissions of the user who started the process, so as long as the user has the permissions, eggdrop will as well.

Have you tried using the .save dcc-partyline command to manually force saving the userfile (automatically saved once an hour) after registering with the bot, and then confirm that the userfile is written?

I've given the account permission to write files, I'm not exactly sure how to give eggdrop the permission though.

Have you made sure your eggdrop have write permissions where you save your userfile?

I get the error

*USER FILE NOT FOUND~ (try './eggdrop -m /usr/local/etc/eggdrop.conf' to make one)

but I've done this already the first time I started this bot up, and a second time just in case, but the third time I tried without the first time startup script it still gives me this same error. What am I doing wrong?
