What version of windows is this? If it is windows 95 - 98 it is best to create a boot able disk normally containing the command.com, io.sys, dos.sys and the cd-rom drivers and use the format command, programs such as ez-drive or diskmanager can make the task easier for users not familiar with formating the hard drive in dos. But if it is windows 98se, windows 2000 or xp the cd-rom will autoboot and you can install your os that way and still keep the partition of D: intact. So you will need to enable boot to cd-rom before your hard drive in the CMOS. Once you have done that restart your computer (should do it by default) and your cd-rom should auto load the installation process, there when it gets into it's menu it will allow you to pick the partition you want and it is best to format it not with quick format but the default full format, normally it's best to pick NTFS but most users need FAT32 for older games or for compatability issues with the network. I have one harddisk of 20GB, 10GB to C:/ and 10GB to D:/ (partitions)

About the newer MSI interface, i download the latest one from microsoft and it still didnt work.

About the format, I seriously wanna format D:/ as well as C:/ this time.. but D:/ has some critical data.

About the partition virus, i have the same doubts myself.

About the help, SOMEONE CALL MICROSOFT TO HELP ME!

Too be 100% honest, I don't realy know.

What we do know, is this is a newish application, probably microsoft (due to the fact, it's using the newer MSI interface).

You didn't say how you had your D: setup. EG, are you using 1 hard drive, with 2 partitions or 2 hard drives.

If you go through the partition route, then there is the possibility of a virus. Saying that, there is a possibility of a partition virus, on a single drive method.

1 Way to fix this, it to use fdisk, or one step better of using the dangarous method of a low level hard drive format (see the manufacturas web site, or use a older motherboard to perform this).

Hi,
I know this is TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC, but i cant help, and dunno where to go

Anyways, this morning, i reinstalled my windows due to idiotic errors i kept getting, one of them is listed below. And then.. after the reinstallation, i downloaded fresh copies of software installations (here, msn, and norton av2002) and tried to install when i got these errors..

What should be done? (Please dont temme, dump windows for *NIX, I dont like windows myself)

Reinstallation has failed... I formatted C: earlier, but left my D: just like how it is, but i didnt use the installation files from D:.. but i downloaded them from the net, so we dont have any possibilities of a virus.

Error creating process . Reason %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

And then it sez

Cannot find file 'C:WINDOWSSYSTEMmsiexec.exe' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are corrent and that all required libraries are available.
